Component assembly and inspection
FocalSpec sensors are used for fast and accurate component and final assembly inspection, inline and offline. Line Confocal Sensors exceeds traditional inspection methods particularly in measuring complex materials and surfaces such as mirror-like, glossy, transparent or multilayered materials, or, a combination of those.
Typical measurements are component dimensions, orientation, step height, gap and offset, material thickness and surface properties such as roughness and flatness. Soldering and gluing quality can also be inspected.
2D intensity imaging in component assembly and inspection
A Line Confocal Sensor collects 3D topographic and intensity imaging data simultaneously. The data corresponds to the standard microscopic data. Contrary to a microscope, a LCI Sensor automatically produces millions of data points at once, which then allows a full inspection of electronic components and their assembly.
PCB quality inspection
A PCB was scanned with a LCI1201 sensor installed in 3D Line Confocal Scanner UULA to identify and measure height, diameter, distances, profiles, orientation and shapes of the selected elements. The data was then compared with known design 3D data to identify possible deviations.
Detection of missing objects
A BGA sample with droplets on the surface was scanned with LCI1201 installed in 3D Line Confocal Scanner UULA. A single missing droplet was detected by using “Islands” functionality in FocalSpec Map.
LED assembly on PCB
A LED component was scanned with a LCI1201 sensor installed in 3D Line Confocal Scanner UULA. The height, width, tilting and orientation of the LED component were measured using FocalSpec Map software.
