Curved edge display inspection with traditional imaging technologies can be very challenging. Line Confocal Sensors are able to illustrate the profile of mobile phone displays with 2.5D or 3D curved glass.
Detecting defects in curved edge displays
The combination of 3D tomography and 2D intensity imaging can be used for identifying defects such as delamination, scratches, or dust on the surface or inside laminated glass, mobile phone displays or any other type of transparent multilayered material.
Contrary to various other types of imaging systems, Line Confocal Sensors detect not only the location of the defect, but also identify in which layer the defect is. In addition, the dimensions of the defects can be measured at microscopic level.

Surface angle in curved edge display inspection
FocalSpec sensors are able to illustrate the profile of curved screen glass at a surface angle of up to 20 degrees. In case of higher angles, the sensor or the sample can be tilted or the sample can be illustrated with another FocalSpec sensor.
3D imaging with Line Confocal Sensors is particularly well suited for the surface inspection of challenging materials including curved, transparent, or multi-layered surfaces, or, as with curved edge displays, a combination of those features.
