FocalSpec’s unique Line Confocal Imaging (LCI) sensors and scanners enable non-contact 3D measurement of surfaces, parts and assemblies that are difficult, or impossible, to measure with the conventional laser triangulation method. Ideal applications for LCI are dimensional and roughness measurement of highly reflective, transparent, high-contrast (matte vs glossy and light vs dark) assemblies that require sub-micron measurement resolution. Thanks to the LCI sensors high speed and data acquisition rate they can be used in both off-line and on-line in-production measurement of various electronics components, assemblies and products. Applications include, but are not limited to:

  • 3D profile/width of conductor traces on PCBs and flexible circuits
  • Topographic measurement of populated circuit boards
  • Printed electronics ink thickness and width measurement
  • 3D topography of printed sensors and other components
  • Roughness of copper, aluminum and coated surfaces
  • Dimensions of semiconductor packages and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)
  • Flatness of display glass assemblies
  • Dimensional details of glossy consumer electronics product enclosures, such as cell phones, watches and fitness trackers
